What is Shirodhara

Shirodhara is an Ayurvedic Therapy that involves pouring liquids over the forehead.

Shirodhara is made up of two words Shiro meaning “Head” and Dhara meaning “Flow” from the ancient European Indian Sanskrit language.

Shirodhara is used to treat conditions such as:

Stress

Sinusitis

Allergic Rhinitis

Headache

Anxiety

Fatigue

Insomnia

Vertigo

Greying of Hair

The Shirodhara technique soothes and invigorates the senses and the mind.

A total feeling of wellness, mental clarity and comprehension is experienced in this process. This is a tranquilizing form of oil treatment as it alters the state of consciousness and reduces anxiety.

In the procedure of Shirodhara, particular pressure and vibration is created over the forehead. This vibration is amplified by the hollow sinus present in the frontal bone. This vibration and the warmth of the oil activates the function of the thalamus (the Third Eye) which produces serotonin (neurotransmitters such as Adrenaline and Adopamine) that will induce the well being and assist with balancing our Doshas (energies).

At Dharabliss, your Shirodhara treatment takes place in a warm and cozy ambiance. It begins with a shoulder and neck massage followed by the hot oil application and ends with a tantalizing scalp massage.

You will leave feeling relaxed and calm.

What is Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a system of holistic self care that originated in India more than 5000 years ago.

Ayurveda is made up of two words: Ayur meaning “Life” and veda meaning “Science” or “Knowledge”. The Science of Life “Ayurveda” combines Four essential parts: Mind, Body, Senses & Soul.

Ayurveda believes that the Mind and Body not only influence each other –

They are one.

There can be no mental health without physical health and visa versa.

Ayurveda recognises three main energies that combine to form all things in the universe. These energies combine in limitless ways to create the unique qualities of each individual. Ayurveda names these three basis energies the “Doshas”as:

VATA:   The Force symbolised by Air

PITTA:   The Force symbolised by Fire

KAPHA: The Force symbolised by Water

The three energies are believed to circulate in the body and govern our physical and mental activities, when theses energies are unbalanced they cause disruptions in our daily lives. Ayurveda assists with restoring and balancing our energies.

Abhyanga Facial Massage

The Abhyanga Facial massage is carried out applying pressure to facial muscles to release tension. This massage assists with opening the sinuses and soothes away headaches. This is performed prior to the hot oil application to prepare you for a tension free session.
